About the position

Faculty of Social Sciences at Nord University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a two year postdoctoral research fellowship in innovation, entrepreneurship and gender.

The postdoc will work within the division of leadership and innovation. This is one of four divisions at the Faculty of Social science and employs more than 40 people, from professors to PhD-candidates. The research group has a strong research profile on leadership and innovative organizing and leadership, in addition gender issues related to this. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to strengthening the research group.

The position is part of the EU-funded project Overcoming the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Gender Divide: A Cross-Cultural Perspective (GENRE). The project addresses the persistent gender bias in entrepreneurship discourse and practice. Women are underrepresented in successful entrepreneurial ecosystems and GENRE will provide a nuanced understanding of how gender is a decisive factor, i.e. how women and men are influenced by and, influence entrepreneurial ecosystems differently. GENRE will focus women's technology entrepreneurship and how this relates to accepted femininity and masculinity norms in different contexts. The project will focus on the cultural embeddedness and interactions of gender, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems. Comparison between Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Israel will be executed to explain variations and similarities regarding gender in technology entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem frameworks.

The postdoctoral research fellow will mainly work within Work Package 4 'Norm Critical Innovation and Entrepreneurship'. The aim is to develop tools to visualise and challenge the underlying gender norms that inhibit the processes of innovation in entrepreneurship ecosystems. The postdoctor will be part of an international team that will work with interactive workshops bringing together relevant stakeholders, interest organisations and researchers in each participating country. The postdoc will, by participating in the interactive workshops also collect and analyse data from four countries and disseminate findings both to an academic audience and to policy makers. Some work related to other work packages may also apply. The project offers the postdoctor the possibility to work with an international well-renowned international research group, including postdoctors.

In addition, the position includes participating in developing research applications. The applicants need to have some prior knowledge on entrepreneurship, innovation or gender studies. The successful candidate must possess knowledge on qualitative research methods.

Qualification requirements

Applicants should have completed a PhD in Management, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Sociology, Gender studies or equivalent within the last 5 years. When evaluating candidates, their scholarly portfolio (e.g. publications) and experience will be assessed relative to when they defended their PhD. Applicants who will complete their PhD first half of 2019 may also apply. In such cases, the application should contain a detailed letter explaining the current status of the candidate's PhD project.

Applicants should have experience in research within entrepreneurship, innovation or related areas and/or within gender studies, and an research interests which matches the GENRE project. The position is ideal for persons aiming to develop a strong network and publication portfolio in these areas. The research group has an ambitious publishing plan and we expect the successful candidate to contribute to achieve this.

Although the primary duties of the position are within research, the candidate is expected and encouraged to be an active member of the faculty of Social Sciences, including supervision, outreach and administrative responsibilities. Documented pedagogical qualifications and experience from teaching and supervision will be advantageous. Excellent written and oral English language skills are a requirement. Since parts of the data is in Norwegian and the workshops are held in Norwegian, a good understanding of Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish) is an advantage. Experience from acquisition of externally funded research projects (e.g. from the EU framework programmes or national research councils) will be advantageous, but is not a requirement.

Remuneration according to government regulations, position code 1352 Postdoctoral fellow. The annual salary will normally be between NOK 515 200,- and 534 100,- but will be determined by agreement and is dependent on qualifications and experience beyond the PhD degree.

This is one of two postdoctoral positions Nord University will recruit for the project. The other is a three-year position at Nord Business School, position no. 30083853.
