About the position

At the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Psychology, a permanent position is available for the role of teaching and research in the field of work and organisational psychology. The position may be affiliated with the Social Psychology research group, or any other research group that fits the candidate's research profile. The position is available for commencement from fall 2019.

The department of Psychology consists of more than 90 employees, including 35 permanent academic staff, 3 technicians, 10 administrative staff and a varying number of PhD students, postdocs and part-time staff. The department has ten research groups: Social Psychology, Child development, Aging and Dementia, Behavioral and Translational Neuroscience, Behavioral Mechanisms and Psychopathology, Centre for Avalanche Research and Education, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Health Psychology.

We offer four study programs for in total 750 students: A one-year program, Bachelor program, Master program and a 6-year Clinical program. From 2019, the department also offer a Student Research Program for students from the Master and Clinical programs. Teaching is given at both undergraduate and graduate level, including PhD. The department runs two psychological clinics, one offering treatment and neuropsychological examinations, the other counselling for children, adolescents and new parents.

Job abstractJV_description

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who will add strength and expertise to work and organisational psychology teaching at our study programs, and who is also willing to build and develop the research environment within work and organisational psychology at the department.

The candidate will be expected to teach at the Master and Clinical programs in psychology. In both programs, the basic foundations of work and organizational psychology will be outlined. Followed by this, the focus in the Clinical program will be on work and mental health, and the significance of work in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation with an applied approach. In the Master program, the focus will be on the main areas of work and organizational psychology and how they may be applied in non-clinical settings. The candidate is also expected to supervise student theses at both Bachelor, Master and PhD level. Other possible areas of work may be to identify and develop arenas for student practice within work and organizational psychology.

We would require the candidate to outline a plan for building and developing research in work and organisational psychology at our department.

Required qualifications

• Authorisation as a clinical psychologist or a Master degree with specialisation within work and organisational psychology.
• A PhD in psychology is required, and the candidate research track record should be of clear relevance for work and organisational psychology

For the position of Associate Professor, a Norwegian doctorate degree is required in the subject area in question, or a corresponding international doctorate degree, which is recognised as being equal to the Norwegian doctorate degree, or competence at an equivalent level documented through academic work of an equivalent scope and quality.

For a permanent position as Associate Professor, the following documentation will be considered as important:

• Independent research after Ph.D.
• Experience with applications for external research funding
• Completed stays abroad and national/international research networks.

Independent research after the Ph.D. can be documented with scientific publications without Ph.D - supervisors as co-authors.

Experience with application for external research funding means that the applicant can show independent application work, but may not necessarily have obtained external funding. Evaluations that show application quality will be useful for assessing applicants' qualifications. Contributions to larger applications can also be considered if the contribution is documented.

International mobility will be assessed according to duration / number of stays and whether the stay has led to scientific publications and/or joint applications for external research funding.

Scientific cooperation, nationally and/or internationally, should be documented through joint publications and/or application work.

Requirements for pedagogical qualifications:

All teaching and research positions at UiT require documented pedagogical qualifications, in the form of an approved teaching portfolio. Experience from teaching and supervision in higher education will be emphasised.

The applicant should be fluent in Norwegian or other Scandinavian language, or be willing to learn Norwegian within two years.

Additional qualifications:

• Broad expertise within applied work and organisational psychology (organisational development, culture, leadership and recruitment).
• Knowledge about the individual in the organisation (motivation, satisfaction, work environment)
• Competence within prevention and mental health
• Experience from organisational work, development and leadership, or from prevention, counselling and return to work.

Emphasis will be placed on the extent to which applicants can outline plans for further research and professional development, and whether such plans are in line with strategic guidelines from the faculty, as well as priorities at the department.

Working and payment conditions

The successful candidate is obliged to make a contribution to the teaching of all students at the Faculty of Health Sciences as and where necessary, to comply with the teaching guidelines and also to take part in examinations work, without specific compensation.

The successful candidate must also be willing to get involved in the ongoing development of their department and the university as a whole.

The distribution of time between teaching and research responsibilities is flexible and is assigned on an individual basis. For all academic staff, 5% of one's working hours are set aside for administrative tasks as standard. Thereafter, the main rule for the distribution of working hours is as follows: up to 50% devoted to research and 50% to teaching, after time spent on other tasks has been deducted.

Any time-restricting deviations from the standard working hours shall also be described.

Permanent employees in positions such as Professor, Docent, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer may apply for paid sabbatical terms, cf. guidelines for the assignment of sabbatical leave.

The remuneration for Associate Professors is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1011

A compulsory contribution of 2% to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.

Assessment

The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee's mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants' qualifications based on the application documents and the text of the announcement.

The applicants who are assessed as best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview shall, among other things, aim to clarify the applicant's personal suitability for the position and motivations. A trial lecture is also normally held for evaluating the applicant's pedagogic skillsne.

In the event that there are no suitably qualified applicants for the position, an interim appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made, cf. section 6-5 (1) of the Act relating to universities and university colleges.

In the event of an interim appointment on the basis of lacking scientific qualifications, applications for a permanent position with a new assessment must be made before the three-year period elapses. The appointment will become permanent in the event that the applicant is then found to be suitably qualified.

In the event of an interim appointment on the basis of lacking teaching qualifications, the applicant must, over the course of the three-year period, gain approved teaching qualifications through the development of a teaching portfolio.
