About the position

We have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Fellow position at the Department of Architecture and Planning.

This Postdoctoral Fellow of research position is linked to the design and implementation of a framework for intra-project collaboration and learning in +CityxChange, among the seven participating cities and with the 24 industry, university and non-for-profit partners. This will include ancillary and action research and publication of research results of the overall project and its approaches around the development of positive energy blocks and districts, community engagement, integrated planning and design, and open urban innovation.

The position will form part of the NTNU Smart Sustainable Cities group led by Annemie Wyckmans, and the Head of The Department, Lise Linge.

The position reports to Head of the Department.

Job abstractJV_description

The successful candidate will contribute to design and implement a scientifically-valid and practically viable open innovation framework for +CityxChange, which goal is to:

.    to identify the needs of the participating cities and solution providers in an effective manner, 
.    to better align goals and priorities among the cities and solution providers,
.    to promote cross-cultural communication, understanding and collaboration between the partners,
.    to speed up the learning process and iteration of results across the entire value chain.

The successful candidate will contribute to create, document and monitor the impact of study visits to the cities as well as peer-to-peer workshops using participatory design methods, forecasting, mock-ups, storyboards, future workshops, brainstorming and experience prototyping.

The successful candidate will contribute to ex-ante/ex-post evaluation of cross-cutting issues within clean energy, open innovation, gender, socio-economic science and humanities to increase impact and deliver practical recommendations to partners and beyond.

Qualification requirements

A Postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral, prefereably with social science/organizational studies/innovation background around smart sustainable cities activities or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. 

If familiar with ex-ante and ex-post evaluation of smart sustainable cities activities, this should be specified.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications

.    Ability to observe, document, analyze, and support the cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral cooperation, disseminate results in the projects,  and publish scientifically
.    Documented experience with methodologies in ex-ante and ex-post evaluation, preferably linked to smart sustainable cities
.    Documented experience in cooperation with public and private sector
.    Documented experience in smart sustainable cities research in international  context 
.    Robust portfolio of scientific publications in international context, ideally bridging into technical disciplines
.    Experience in European research and innovation projects
.    Active engagement in international smart sustainable cities expert networks
.    Technical background and understanding of smart city innovation projects
.    Understanding of organizational theory and development
.    Background in action research, participatory/transformative approaches
.    Good written and oral English and Norwegian language skills

.    Structured approach to one's own work as well as in cooperation with others
.    Able to work well independently as well as in cooperation with others
.    Flexible, able to update work plans to achieve the best possible results, even on short notice

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
